mini crew

Through Mini Crew we use the waterways as a stimulus to aid learning, development and creativity amongst children and young people.

“We’re a family unit.”Peter

Mini Crew is run by volunteers who have progressed through our work placement programmes, providing them an opportunity to share what they have learnt with the younger generation and pass on their skills in a relaxed and nurturing environment.

Mini Crew members take on roles of responsibility whilst crewing the boats, rotating through the jobs, working as a team, learning from each other and having fun together.

Creative activities such as photography, drawing and crafting are also a big part of the mini crew experience, as well as boat handling and nature studies.

As part of their Mini Crew journey some members are working towards the John Muir Award - an award that encourages people of all backgrounds to connect with, enjoy and care for wild places. Two members have already achieved their John Muir Discovery Award and are working on the next level - The John Muir Explorer Award.

“When I looked back at my family I found out my great great great grandad was a boater, so it has always been there, I’d just never had the opportunity.” Katrina
