malcolm’s story
Malcolm joined our Volunteer Programme as a progression of his participation in Forging Futures.
Having a passion for the great outdoors, Malcolm quickly fitted in with the rest of the staff and volunteers at Canal Connections.
When he discovered the work we do at Esholt he shone bright, booming with ideas that would benefit the natural surroundings and benefit the mindfulness users of Esholt.
He is already a massive source of information concerning wildlife and environmental protection. He has aspirations to convert the garden ponds into education spots and is looking at how we can adapt the landscape to attract more wildlife that can be enjoyed by all.
Since completing his Forging Futures course he has stayed with us and completed a number of extra courses and has also become a valuable crew member and volunteer. From working at Calverly Old Hall, supporting the development at Esholt to boat trips, including one with a business development team onboard where he showed them the waterways in the area that they are looking to develop.
He is currently working for the River Stewardship, being immersed in nature every day as part of his job.
Malcolm still volunteers sometimes with us and has been collaborating with his work and canal connections to help enhance biodiversity and sustainability on the waterways.
